Police officers from Ongata Rongai Police Station in Kajiado County have arrested five suspects in a security operation that uncovered handcuffs, spent cartridges, and a police baton believed to have been in illegal possession.

The operation, carried out on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, evening near the PEFA Church in Ongata Rongai, began when officers on routine patrol flagged down two suspicious middle-aged men.

A quick search of one of the suspects revealed a pair of handcuffs concealed in his jacket pocket. The second suspect attempted to flee but was captured after a short chase.

During interrogation, the suspects disclosed that they had obtained the items from another individual and offered to lead the officers to his residence. Acting on the lead, the officers proceeded to the Kware area, where a thorough search was conducted.

The search yielded four spent cartridges and a police baton, raising suspicions of prior unlawful use. Three additional suspects were arrested at the premises, bringing the total number of arrests to five.

All recovered items were secured as exhibits and will form part of the evidence in the ongoing investigations.

In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) commended the officers for their swift action and reiterated the importance of vigilance in addressing criminal activities.

“This operation highlights the need for constant vigilance and firm action by the National Police Service to ensure that tools which could be misused to facilitate violent crime are removed from the wrong hands and that those involved are brought to justice,” the statement read.

Authorities praised the swift response of officers and urged the public to report suspicious activity, warning that criminals sometimes use police equipment to impersonate officers and target victims.

The NPS further appealed to the public to continue working closely with law enforcement by reporting suspicious individuals or activities.

Police emphasized that community cooperation is critical in deterring crime and ensuring security in residential and business areas.

The five suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

Police say they are working to trace the source of the recovered items and determine whether the group has links to wider criminal networks.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and share information with security agencies, stressing that community cooperation is key to curbing insecurity in Ongata Rongai and the wider Nairobi metropolitan area.
